Army Physical Fitness Test

Implemented in 1980 as the standard physical fitness test for all US Army Soldiers, the APFT tests muscular and cardiovascular strength and endurance through three events:

  1. Push-up
  2. Sit-up
  3. 2-mile Run

Events are scored by counting the number of repetitions performed and assigning points for each repetition depending on age and gender. Up to 100 points can be earned per event for a maximum possible score of 300. At least 180 cumulative points, with at least 60 points in each individual event, are needed to earn a passing score.
