American Food Simplicity
When developing as a nation, America existed as a patchwork of different cultures. From this, an amazing food culture has developed in America, but few dishes are uniquely American. Sometimes you get in the mood for something simple, something that evolved from and in American culture and without outside influence. These truly uniquely American dishes were developed based on circumstance and necessity, as have so many great foods in other cultures.
Succotash: Two purely American ingredients, Lima beans and corn, make one delicious paring. Add butter, a bit of maple syrup, and salt and pepper to taste. Top your favorite rice with your succotash mixture for an amazing and complete vegetarian meal.
Popcorn: Popping corn is a uniquely American snack that is easy to prepare and perfect for when guests are visiting any time of year. Popcorn was cemented into American snack culture during the depression and the Second World Was as an affordable luxury. While it likely originated in southern and western Mexico, popcorn is rarely found outside the United States today.
Fajitas: Believed to have originated with Texas ranch cowboys in the 1930s, Fajitas are the real deal when it comes to uniquely American food. Unlike what you find at your local restaurants, the original fajitas were nothing more than skirt steak cooked over open coals and wrapped in a tortilla.
